Best Points Hotels in Hong Kong

The St. Regis Hong Kong

First opened in April 2019, The St. Regis Hong Kong is located in the business district of Wan Chai. The 129-room hotel is one of my favorite looking hotels in Hong Kong. All rooms are modern with either a view of the city or Victoria Harbour. I was scheduled to have a three-day stopover on my return from Sydney staying at this property. Then COVID happened. This is where I will stay on my future return.

If you are a foodie, you have a couple of options for food. One French restaurant, L’Envol, and a Chinese restaurant, Rùn. L’Envol is a two Michelin star restaurant while Rùn is one star Michelin. Also on the property is a well-stocked fitness center, swimming pool, spa and the famous St. Regis Bar.

This is a pricy hotel. Cash rates range between $357 to $539 dollars each night before tax. This is a category 8 Marriott property. Most points nights fall into the standard or peak pricing total. There are a handful of off-peak nights with most coming in the month of August.

JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong

West of The St. Regis is the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. The hotel is located in the Admiralty district of Hong Kong. Lan Kwai Fong and Victoria Peak is nearby. All rooms are modern with calming tones. Rooms may have views of the city, Victoria Peak or the harbor.

There are plenty of food options on property including seafood, breakfast, grill, deli and bar. Like The St. Regis, there is also a Michelin star Chinese option called Man Ho Chinese Restaurant.

The JW is half the price of The St. Regis but is still pretty pricy. You can expect to pay between $250 to $350 in cash each night. You can expect more standard and peak nights at this hotel. Most Friday and Saturday nights will be peak pricing. This is a category 6 hotel.

Le Meridien Hong Kong, Cyberport

Located on the west side of Hong Kong Island, the Le Meridien Hong Kong, Cyberport is currently undergoing a complete renovation until January 2022. All rooms, restaurants and public areas will be redesigned.

Non points nights are in the $177 to $246 pretax range. Most nights will be in the lower part of that price range. Most points nights are off-peak or standard. If you do find yourself in peak pricing, you might consider using one of your Marriott free night certificates.

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong

The next hotel on our list comes from Marriott. The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong is in the Kowloon district. Fun fact. The hotel begins on the 103rd floor of a skyscraper. It takes an 80-second elevator ride to arrive. Rooms are modern and luxurious.

Like the previous hotels, there are two Michelin rated dining options. The first is Tosca Di Angelo. It is Italian cuisine and one Michelin starred. The other option is the two Michelin starred Tin Lung Heen. This is Chinese restaurant focuses on Dim Sum.

Pre-tax cash nights will be between $306 and $544 each night. Most points nights throughout the year will be standard or peak pricing. It will be difficult to find off-peak nights.

Crowne Plaza: Hong Kong Kowloon East

This IHG hotel is located further away from the main area of Hong Kong. I was actually surprised to see how modern and luxurious the Crowne Plaza: Hong Kong Kowloon East was. My only experience with the brand was totally different experience.

The hotel offers a lot less than other hotels in Hong Kong. But does offer a dining option, pool and fitness center.

Cash rates can vary based on the time of year. Summer months are generally between $150 to $250 each night. IHG uses dynamic pricing. You can expect points nights between 9,000 and 14,000.

Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui

The next hotel on this list is located in the Tsim Sha Tsui area with plenty of shopping and nightlife. The Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui has luxurious rooms with contemporary décor.

There are several different dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Options range from fine dining to Chinese. The hotel also has an outdoor heated swimming pool and fitness center.

Cash nights vary from as low as $101 pretax during winter months to $210 during summer. Most points nights will be standard. There are some off-peak nights sprinkled throughout the year. If you find peak pricing, you’ve just got unlucky for your stay. There isn’t more than a handful throughout the year.

Holiday Inn Express: Causeway Bay Hong Kong

The next hotel on this best points hotels list is across the bay from Tsim Sha Tsui. The Holiday Inn Express: Causeway Bay Hong Kong is an IHG hotel. While this hotel isn’t as luxurious as others on this list, for those spending only minimal time in the hotel it will work just fine.

The hotel also offers free breakfast. There is also laundry facilities if you are on an extended vacation and need to wash your clothes.

Cash rates are low starting at $60 each night. But could go as high as $150. Regardless of price, most points nights are either 11,000 or 12,000 IHG points each night.

Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour Hong Kong

This next property gives me serious FOMO vibes. Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbour Hong Kong is definitely one hotel I want to stay at. Rooms are bright in color and modern.

You can easily get to many different places from the hotel. You can also enjoy a walk along the harbourfront as the hotel is located along the water.

Cash rates generally fall between $153 to $200 each night. Most points nights are standard pricing. Late July and early August show most nights are off-peak pricing. Most peak pricing comes later in the year in November and December. Best part is this is a Hyatt category 4 property so you can use your free night awards.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

The last Hyatt brand hotel on this list is the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. I’ve previously stayed here in 2019. The hotel is located in the Wan Chai area. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre is across the street. The hotel has over 500 luxurious rooms to relax in.

There are eleven different dining options ranging from international, Italian, Chinese and a chocolatier.

You can expect to find cash nights between $250 and $350. But most typically over $300 a night. Most points nights are either standard or peak pricing. August appears to be mostly off-peak.

Holiday Inn Express: Hong Kong Kowloon CDB2

Found in the Central Business District, Holiday Inn Express: Hong Kong Kowloon CDB2 is another IHG hotel. Rooms are modern. There isn’t a lot available on site. But there is free breakfast.

Cash rates are generally around $150 each night, but can go as low as $80 a night. Most points nights cost 14,000.

How to Earn These Points

IHG is a brand that doesn’t get talked about a bunch. Their cobranded cards with Chase are solid and typically have great welcome offers. You can get the welcome offers on both personal cards.

Marriott is a transfer partner of both Marriott and American Express. I wouldn’t recommend transferring your flexible points. Instead, focus on earning Bonvoy points through cobranded cards. Cards like the Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card can help you travel for less all while focusing on 5/24.

Hyatt points on the other hand are easy to earn. Since Hyatt is a Chase travel partner, you can easily transfer Ultimate Rewards points for your redemptions. That means cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Ink Business Unlimited can cover tons of hotel nights.

Hyatt also partners with Chase for their cobranded cards. You can earn World of Hyatt points through the personal World of Hyatt card and business credit card. UR can also be transferred to World of Hyatt.

Best Points Hotels in Hong Kong Bottom Line

Hong Kong is a vibrant city. I’d probably say the ideal amount of time to stay here is 4 days. It’s a great city to break up a trip. I can’t wait to come back.

Hong Kong properties typically come with excellent service and luxurious accommodations. The Holiday Inn’s on this list are great for families or someone with a short layover and just wants to catch some sleeps.
