While on a road trip, I decided to spend the night in Nashville, Tennessee. I didn’t want/need anything special. I didn’t need something like the Thompson Nashville. Just a place to rest my head in a safe area. The one year old Hyatt House Nashville/Franklin – Cool Springs was the perfect place. I’ve previously stayed in this hotel several times over the past year. I never have any complaints.
In this Review:
Location
As the name would suggest, the Hyatt House Nashville/Franklin – Cool Springs is near downtown Nashville. It’s just 18 miles from downtown, but located south in the city of Franklin, TN. The hotel is situated off Cool Springs Blvd and I-65. There are tons of restaurants and shops nearby.
Booking
This is a category 3 property. As such, you’ll need 12,000 World of Hyatt points per night. The standard rooms available for points are the Den | King Bed or Den | King Bed (with sleeper sofa). Member rates start at $156/night. Weekend rates are a bit higher.
During my stay, the larger studio kitchen suite was cheaper than the Den. The studio suite went for $184 a night using the military rate. After taxes it came out to $216.77. This would give my World of Hyatt points are pretty solid valuation of 1.81 cents a point. But I prefer to use my points for much more expensive hotels, so I ended up paying with cash. I was also working on my new card, the Citi Premier, so that was also a bit motivator in paying cash. If I wasn’t working on the Citi Premier, I would put the charge on my Chase Sapphire Reserve or World of Hyatt card.
Check-In
I arrived at the Hyatt House at almost 5PM about an hour after the posted check-in time of 4PM. There was one gentleman checking in another customers. While waiting, another agent showed up and started checking me in.
This is my one and only complaint about this stay is. He quickly checked me in. Like literally only 30 seconds max. He didn’t acknowledge my status (which I don’t really care about), didn’t ask me if I’ve stayed at the hotel, or any other small talk.
I think he was in the process of being trained as later one I went to grab two water bottles: a benefit of being a World of Hyatt elite. He was reminded by the other front desk associate to give a gift bag to a different World of Hyatt member. I did not get a gift bag.
Studio Kitchen Suite | King Bed (plus sofa bed) – The Room
There was no upgrade, but the Hyatt House brand doesn’t participate in upgrades as a part of the World of Hyatt program anyways. But since the Hyatt House is a more extended stay brand the rooms are much larger. There was plenty of space for me to relax after a long day on the road and before hitting the road again.
The Studio Kitchen Suite was similar to a corner suite.
I was given room 308. A room on the third floor. It was almost as far away from the elevator as you can get which is what I prefer.
When you first walk in the room there is a desk/dining room table. There was only chairs. The chair was similar to office chairs. I did eat dinner here while watching an The Ohio State University football game. The chair would work pretty well for someone working from their room. At the end of the desk/table, was a built in mini fridge at the floor. There was also a power outlet so you could charge your devices if needed. This was the only sighting of a USB port in the room.
The kitchen was a nice size. There was a small stove, microwave, sink, dishwasher and coffeemaker. The room was also stocked with all the kitchen supplies that you would need including plates, cups and silverware.
As you go further into the room, you have the living room and bedroom area. On the left was the living room.
The living room was a nice size for a hotel. It had a sections with two ottoman’s. There was a side table with a lamp. The couch was able to convert into a sofa bed. Great for families. There was also a closet with some extra bedding for the couch and hangers for clothes or coats.
The TV was split between the living room and bedroom. It could rotate so you could see it from anywhere in the room. The TV was updated so you could connect via Chromecast. I had trouble on my laptop using Paramount+, but didn’t have issues using my phone.
In the bedroom was a king size bed. Both sides had tables and lamps. There was a power outlet in the lamps too charge your phone. Make sure to bring your wall mount as there were no USB outlets.
The bathroom entrance was near the bedroom. There was a small sink, toilet and shower. Plenty of towels were available. Above the toilet were two towel hooks. Water pressure was great. Water got hot quickly. One area I thought needed improvement was the bathroom. There wasn’t a lot of counter space so it would be tough for two people during an extended stay.
Since the hotel is located in a city, views aren’t spectacular, but at least I didn’t have the top of a building to look at.
Food and Drink
There is a lobby bar. They have happy hour each night. I didn’t partake in any drinks.
Breakfast was a typical Hyatt House breakfast. It was all self-serve. The main dishes were scrambled eggs, pork sausage, potatoes and pancakes. Oatmeal was also available. Different types of nuts and sugars were available to mix into the oatmeal. You could also have different cereals, fruit, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. A small collection of breads rounded out the food options. Coffee, orange juice, apple juice and different types of milks were ready in pitchers.
There was a small market with drinks and quick bites (think chocolate bars) next to the front desk.
Amenities
Even though, this was an extended stay hotel there were a variety of amenities.
Business Center
There is a business center located in the lobby. There were only two computers available. One PC and one mac. A printer was located near both.
Outdoor Patio
There was a large outdoor patio. There is plenty of space to spread out with a drink or breakfast. Or just plain relaxing on a cool morning or evening. There are two large fire pits to sit around. A pergola blocks out a good portion of the sun, but not rain as you can tell from the photo.
Gym
A gym is located on the lower level. It doesn’t offer a lot. There are several treadmills and stationary bikes. There is one weight machine and a few barbells.
Pool
Also located on the lower level is an indoor pool. It would be perfect for kids. Its only three feet deep. The front desk also told me it was heated throughout the year. Perfect for winter staycations for those living in Nashville.
Laundry
The last amenity on the lower level is the laundry. There are a three washing machines and four dryers.
Hyatt House Nashville/Franklin – Cool Springs Bottom Line
While I don’t typically stay at extended stay properties, I enjoy this one. Rooms have always been clean and staff typically excellent. This would be a perfect property for those working in the Franklin area for weeks or months at a time or families looking for a staycation. Although breakfast isn’t the best, this could be great for families on vacation. The pool is a great feature in the winter. This is the property I check for any cash prices each time I head to Nashville.
