After arriving on my British Airways flight, it was time check into the hotel. I took the train towards the city center and after a short walk; I had arrived at the Park Hyatt Zurich. I chose the Park Hyatt Zurich for a couple of reasons.

First, I’m a Hyatt Globalist. I try and stay at Hyatts when they are available. Secondly, I’m a fan of luxury properties. I’ve heard good stories from previous stays. But will my experience measure up with those reviews?

Booking

Because I value my Hyatt Globalist benefits, I always book directly with Hyatt. That’s also the only way to use World of Hyatt points. This is a category 7 property so rooms will be expensive. Standard rooms (1 King or 2 Twin Beds) start at 30,000 WOH points. You can also book standard suites and premium suites using points. Standard suites go for 48,000/night while premium suites will cost 60,000.

Cash prices were high during my stay as is typical in Switzerland. The standard 1 King room was going for 550 CHF or $601 USD. Since cash prices where high, I used points to book a three-night stay. I had enough in my World of Hyatt account to cover my entire stay, but you can transfer in additional points from Chase.

Location

The Park Hyatt Zurich is in an ideal location. It’s fairly near a train station so you can quickly get around Zurich. But near several big attractions. Lake Zurich is less than 5 minutes away by walking. Old Town is about a 10-15 minute walk away. The area is kind of busy, but I never heard street noise in my room.

Check-In

I arrived at about 1:30PM. Two and a half hours before the stated check-in time of 4PM. There were two other people getting checked in. I didn’t half to wait long to get my process started. I was upgraded to standard room on the top floor. I did inquire about a suite upgrade, but there were none available.

The lady checking me in was quick. She explained the amenities on property. My room wasn’t ready, but I would get a call when it was. My baggage was checked and would be brought to my room after my room was ready.

Since I was still pretty tired, I sat in the lobby for a bit then walked down to the lake. It was a tad past 4PM when I got the call my room was ready.

I was given room 620. This is a room on the top floor fairly near the elevator but down the hall some. You need a room key to gain access to guest room floors and could only access your floor.

Let me start by saying I wasn’t completely fond of the décor in the room. The room was comfortable and clean. I just didn’t care for the décor. The rooms are probably in need of a renovation.

When you first walk into the room, there is a floor to ceiling mirror covering about half the length of the room. To the right is the bathroom, closet and mini bar area.

The bathroom felt luxurious compared the rest of the room.

The first thing you see in the bathroom is the sink area. Counter space is rather small, but there is a small shelf above the sink you could use as well. There were your standard bathroom items including Le Labo lotion, cotton swabs etc. In the mirror was a small television. The remote for it was also in the bathroom. I kinda find this feature a bit silly so I never used it.

To the right of the sink area was the toilet. A glass sliding door separated the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. There was marble finishing on the back of the room.

To the left of the sink was the shower and tub. The shower was in the back corner. A rainfall shower head was in the ceiling. The pressure from was good. Le Labo shampoo, conditioner and body was waiting in the shower. There wasn’t a door separating the shower from the rest of the room. The water never crept into the rest of the bathroom.  There was also what appeared to be a towel warmer, but I could never figure out how to use it.

There were sliding wooden windows by the tub you could open if you wanted to relax in the bath and watch TV.

The mini bar was fairly big. There was a Nespresso coffeemaker with three different types of pods. There was also a few different types of teas. Below the coffeemakers was the safe and a fridge with a couple different drinks.

The closet was fairly small, but big enough to walk in. There was a place to set your luggage, hang your clothes and a couple of drawers.

In the main part of the were the bed, couch and a small dining table. The TV was across from the bed. The television was an older model as there was no Chromecast options to connect a device to watch Netflix or something similar. The couch was more of a lounger. It was comfy, but you’d need several pillows to prop yourself up. The bed was comfy as well. The pillows probably need some replacing as they were completely flat. On both sides of the was a bedside table. The one on the left was much larger when compared to the right. There were power outlets and USB ports on both sides.

Next to the couch was a small side table but it did have this cool power outlet thing coming out of it.

On the small table a nice little welcome amenity was left for me. There was also a sheet of paper detailing the amenities.

Along the far wall were two different shades – a light and darkening shade. Because of the placement of the couch, it was difficult to get to the shades. The darkening shade didn’t have a pole as it had been ripped off. I also accidently ripped of the light shade during my stay. I did mention it to the front desk when I was leaving one day and requested it to be fixed, but no one ever came to check it out.

Dining

There are a couple of dining options. The main dining option is the restaurant – Parkhaus. They are typically open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. During my stay, Parkhaus was only open for breakfast and dinner. If you are a globalist, Parkhaus is where you take your free breakfast. You could eat indoors or outside.

I got breakfast here all three mornings during my stay. The first morning I got scrambled eggs and pancakes. The eggs were good, but the pancakes were meh. The next day I got eggs and French Toast. The French Toast was amazing. So much so I had it again the next morning.

If you prefer drinks, Onyx is where you want to be. During my stay, it was only open Friday and Saturday evenings. My room was on this side of the hotel, but I never did hear anything.

The Lobby Lounge is also a place where you can get drinks. While I was waiting for my room, I did get a water and a Coke. I never did get charged for it. The front desk told me you could get breakfast in the Lobby Lounge, but I never saw anyone eating there.

There is also room service. You can take your free globalist breakfast in room if you prefer.

Amenities

There were a couple of amenities on sites.

There was a small business center everyone had access to. There was one iMac computer on the far side plus a couch, chair and television.

There was also a spa and gym. Both of which you needed a reservation for due to COVID restrictions. I’m not very good at working out while I’m traveling and never made it to the gym. If the prices are anything like the Thompson Dallas, I’m happy I skipped out on the spa.

Park Hyatt Zurich Bottom Line

There was nothing really wrong this hotel. But many interactions with staff left a sore taste in my mouth. A couple of days after I checked out I received a survey and mentioned this issues. I did get a response from the room manager apologizing. But never taking responsibility. In my honest opinion, this property doesn’t deserve to be a Park Hyatt. This really is more of a regular Hyatt brand below a Hyatt Regency. The hotel needed to be more luxurious to be a Park Hyatt.

Although I wish I had a better room upgrade, the room was fine for my stay. It was large enough to accommodate two people and maybe a small child. This location was perfect for me to get to the train station, lake and Old Town.

What do you think of the Park Hyatt Zurich? Let me know in the comments.
