After arriving in Sydney on my Qantas flight, it was time to head to my hotel. I decided to take an Uber to not deal with the morning commute. It was 7:30AM after all when I landed! After going through immigration and COVID vaccination checks, it was only 8AM. The ride only ended up taking 30 minutes getting me to one of my favorite hotels in the world, the Park Hyatt Sydney.

The hotel features 155 rooms and suites with floor to ceiling glass doors. It first opened in 1990 and underwent its most recent renovation in 2012. Even though it has been 10 years, the Park Hyatt Sydney does not show its age.

Park Hyatt Sydney Review

Location

This was my second stay at the Park Hyatt Sydney. The location has never disappointed me. The Park Hyatt is located in The Rocks area with tons of shopping and restaurants nearby. Sydney Harbour Bridge is right next door and Sydney Opera House is just a short walk away.

The hotel is a bit further away from other sites. There is a public transportation stop down the street. It sits right inside Circular Quay. One thing to note about Circular Quay is this is where the cruise ships docked. But the rooms do a great job blocking all the noise.

Booking

Like always, I booked directly on the Hyatt website. During my one-night stay, cash prices were over $1,000 a night. Way to pricy for this graduate student. The Park Hyatt Sydney is an excellent hotel to get insane value out of your points.

Category 8 World of Hyatt Redemptions

I booked this stay back in March 2022 before the Park Hyatt Sydney became a Category 8 hotel. Why is this relevant? I used a Category 1-7 Free Night Award rather than points. This FNA is a benefit for Globalist’s after staying 60 nights in calendar year.

Check-In

Even with arriving at 8:30AM, front desk staff was excellent and accommodating. I was informed that I was upgraded from the 1 King Bed, the base room, to the 1 King Bed Opera View Deluxe. This room was going for $1,500 AUD for the night!

My room wasn’t ready when I arrived. Totally understandable! They took my carry-on and informed me it would be in my room. I sat in the lobby lounge, The Living Room, for around 30 minutes and did a bit of work before deciding to see a few sites. I walked over to the Opera House and the Royal Botanical Gardens.

I received a text about an hour after I arrived and informed my room was ready. I grabbed a coffee and muffin as a snack while I walked back to the hotel. Once I returned, I was personally greeted, given my keys and escorted to the elevator.

The Room – 1 King Bed Opera View Deluxe

I was given room 342. It is almost as far away from the elevator as possible which is my preference.

This room was massive. It measures 75 square meters. There are several sitting areas inside the room and two small balconies. I loved this room! The last time I was at the Park Hyatt Sydney I was only a Discoverist. I was in a base room with a view of the Opera House.

When you first walk in, the toilet room is located to the right. If you head to the left, a short hallway takes you to the main part of the room.

The toilet room contained a bidet and a sink. The bidet had a heated seat. That was a bit surprising at first. The odd thing here? A telephone. Who needs a telephone next to the toilet!

The wardrobe was on the left side of the hallway leading to the main part of the room. An iron and ironing board were provided if needed. There was plenty of hangers in the wardrobe for hanging clothes. These are one thing I never use in a room. I just keep everything in my suitcase like a monster. Speaking of my suitcase, it had been left in the wardrobe before I got in my room. Little touches like this go a long way.

The door to the bathroom was across from the wardrobe. It had a tub, two sinks and a huge shower. There was a movable wall between the tub and bed. This allowed you have views of Opera House while soaking in the tub.

Two sinks separated the tub and shower. There was tons of counterspace.

Shower products were from Le Labo. Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and Himalayan bath salts were provided. Normally hotels don’t. I loved the Bergamote 22 products. They didn’t leave my hair dry.

Water pressure in the shower was great as was the hot water temperature.

The minibar was located to the right of the wardrobe. There were several different sections. One was a tea pot. Only thing wrong? No place to get hot water for tea. The mini bar was stocked with several different snack options. Nuts, cookies, chocolate bars, gummy worms and chips were available.

On the drink side, there were a few options. Hard liquor, wine and beer was available. Along with the appropriate drinkware.

A Nespresso machine was also available with plenty of pods.

Once you entered the main part of the room, you had a table, living room area and the bed. The table was facing the bay.

The living room space had a couch, chair, table and TV. The television could be rotated to view anywhere in the room. The couch and chair were comfy. The TV was one part of the room I didn’t like. Somehow, I feel it could be mounted somewhere.

This room had a king side bed. It felt almost brand new. Two side tables flanked each side of the bed. There were plenty of power outlets and USB ports on each side.

Outside space was small but great. The room was two balconies. One for sitting and another more designed for standing. Basically, they covered the entire exterior portion of the room. I really enjoyed sitting outside on the sitting balcony in the evening while doing some work. I went in May which is right between the autumn and winter months in Australia. Temperature wasn’t too cold. About 70 degrees daily.

The larger of the balconies had two chairs and ottoman/table. The smaller of the balconies would allow a couple people to stand outside.

Dining

The Dining Room

The only time I ate on property was breakfast the day after check-in. As a Globalist, I’m entitled to free breakfast in the club lounge. If the hotel doesn’t have a lounge, the benefit extends to the hotel restaurant. At the Park Hyatt Sydney, breakfast is served in The Dining Room. I arrived (as usual) right after they opened.

I was seated along the exterior wall and treated to views of the water. Honestly, this is probably my favorite view when having a meal.

Two options were given: buffet or order from a menu. I am typically am not a fan of buffets so I ordered off the menu.

I started with a vanilla latte. It was excellent. I ended up having three while eating and taking another back to my room. I may have a slight problem drinking too much coffee.

I didn’t find the restaurant to be that accommodating. I tried to order a cheese omelette with toast and was told that wasn’t possible. So I ordered the dining room breakfast plate which on consisted of scrambled eggs on toasted rye bread, smoked bacon, sausage links, mushrooms, spinach and a hashbrown. The eggs were great. I’m normally not a fan of sausage links. I had a few bites and found them to taste good though. I didn’t like the bacon, but I prefer mine crispy. The hashbrown reminded me of one from McDonalds.

I also ordered the pancakes. It came with whipped ricotta, honey, and cinnamon sugar on top. The pancakes were good. I thought there was just a tad bit too much ricotta and honey. I ended up only eating half.

Service was great. I was frequently checked in on especially when my latte was getting low.

The Living Room

The Living Room was another dining option. It is located in the lobby right behind the front desk. They serve items like snacks, salads, deli items and a few entrees. They also provide coffee and tea. Although this was an option, I sat in here for a bit after first arriving to the hotel and was never greeted by a staff member. So maybe I didn’t look like I need anything?

The Bar

The Bar is a place to grab a drink after a day of exploring or work. It is only open in the evening hours. A wide variety of Australian and international wines and liquor is offered.

Amenities

There are plenty of amenities onsite.

Business Center

One amenity I just don’t understand is the business center. Desktop computers with a printer were provided. There were also some quiet rooms to take business calls if needed.

Business Center. Does anyone actually use these?

Pool

A small pool and hot tub is available on the rooftop. This is more of a social pool rather than a pool to swim in. There are many loungers by poolside or facing the Opera House. A few cabanas were also available if you rented them.

Spa

The hotel has a spa that operated Tuesday through Sunday. On Monday, it is closed. I recommend making reservations through the hotel concierge prior to arrival.

Park Hyatt Sydney Bottom Line

This is one of my favorite Hyatts. When I’m in Australia, I always try to stay here. During Vivid Sydney, this would be an excellent place to stay.

While the cash and points price is high, you won’t be disappointed in your stay. Rooms are well taken care off. I didn’t see one thing that was damaged or showing age in the entire hotel. Aside from the small issue at breakfast, staff went out of their way to be helpful. Almost reminds me of staying at my favorite domestic hotel. If you are staying in Sydney and need a hotel, I highly recommend the Park Hyatt Sydney.

I wouldn’t say this isn’t a family friendly hotel. I didn’t see any children during my one night. But there are some children friendly treats for children that can be requested.
