Needing to use a Hyatt Free Night Award, I decided on a quick one night stay away from home. I didn’t have time to drive down to Austin before the award expired. I’ve stayed at the Hyatt Regency Dallas a couple of time, but I wanted to try something new. There aren’t a lot of upscale or luxury properties in Dallas under the Hyatt brand. The other full-service property, Thompson Dallas, is a category 6. I decided to use my award at the Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas.
Location
The Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas is located in the North Texas suburb of Frisco off two major freeways. The hotel is located at the Stonebriar Mall. There are plenty of shopping, fast-food and sit-down restaurants nearby. Several corporate headquarters are within five miles.
It would take about 20-30 minutes to drive here depending on which airport you arrived at. Add on 20-30 additional minutes during rush hour traffic.
Booking
Since I was wanting to use a free night award, I booked directly through Hyatt.com. Free Night Awards are good at any Hyatt brand in award category 1-4. The Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas is a category 3 property. If you didn’t have an award, you could use 12,000 World of Hyatt points for a standard room. The standard room is 1 King or 2 Queen.
You can earn free night awards on each cardmember anniversary that you hold a Chase World of Hyatt credit card.
Cash rates start at $200 a night.
Check-In
The check-in desk is to the right when you walk in through the front door. There were two staff members. Both friendly. I was quickly given my keys, amenities were explained and off I went.
I was upgraded to the corner suite due to my Hyatt Globalist status.
Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas Corner Room
Eagle eyed readers will notice I called my room a suite at check in and a room in the above line. While this room is listed under suites its really just a larger room at the end of the hall. I was also told at check-in this was a suite.
I was originally given room 824, but wasn’t happy with that room layout. I was a guest with the ChooseFI Foundation that night and didn’t want a bed in the background. I returned down to the lobby and inquired about a different room. The front desk associates were polite and understanding, but dismissive of my requests for the Regency Suite or Executive Suite. I didn’t press the issue. One associate did walk up with me to a different room to make sure it would work. I ended up in room 701 at the end of a long hallway.
When you first walk into the room, there is a place on the right to drop your bags. There is a small cubby with and ironing board and iron. On the bottom are three drawers to store clothes. On the left side is a fridge, coffee, safe and an extra blanket.
Across from that is an area to hang jackets and the bathroom.
The bathroom had one sink and ample counter space. Towels and the hair dryer were below the sink. The mirror over the sink was large and well lit. The walk-in shower was a nice size. Water pressure was great and heated up quickly. Controls for the shower were on the left side right when you walk in. You can easily turn it on without getting in. The toilet was in its own room. There was a bad design here. You can’t easily tell which way the door opens. I originally pushed in slamming the door into the toilet.
As you walk further into the “suite”, you enter the living and bed area.
The couch was on the right side along the walk. There was a large table and a small table on either side. Along the far windows was the desk and TV. There was lots of power options at the desk. The chair was heavy and awkward to move. Below the TV were more drawers.
The bed was on the left side of the room. Two bed side tables flanked it. There were power plug and USB options for charging here. There was also a bench in front of the bed.
The exterior walls were all large windows. There were two different drapes including darkening ones.
Since this is a mall property, the views aren’t that great. I could see the top of the mall and the parking lot. Further in the distance was the Frisco skyline.
This corner room had a connecting room door.
Dining
The main restaurant is Copper & Steel. At check-in, I was informed it was only open on the weekend. The sitting area for the restaurant surrounds the open kitchen.
There is a bar across from Copper & Steel is a bar. It is open daily.
During the week the only food option is the market, C&S Market. There weren’t a lot of options for breakfast which was disappointing. I was informed there were omelets at check-in but the next morning told that was only on the weekend. You could only get three hot options plus pastries, yogurt and fruit. There is a $25 limit for Globalists.
There were a lot of drink and several dinner options.
Amenities
On the entrance level is a couple of things. There are tons of sitting areas. It’s really modern. I enjoyed the style.
The rest of the amenities are on the 4th floor.
The pool area is outdoors and a nice size. There are several different seating areas with different types of seats. The pool was on the small size. Pack your sunscreen as there aren’t a lot of shaded options. A poolside bar is open on the weekends. Towels are located at the indoor entrance.
The Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas pool reminded me of an upscale prison yard. There were concrete walls surrounding the pool area.
The gym is located near the pool. It’s a good size with bikes, treadmills and free weights. When I went to go take pictures, there were tons of people in there at 10AM.
There is a Regency Club, but its currently closed. Globalists get access through their status. Explorists can use their club access awards for entrance.
Parking is free. There is a huge upper and lower-level lot just outside the front doors.
Bottom Line
This is a decent property. I’d imagine the Hyatt Regency Frisco-Dallas would get better as business travel bounces back. This property is better suited for a business people rather than families. Though I imagine some families visit on the weekend. I wish there was better Globalist recognition on suite upgrades.
