A family vacation to Honolulu, Hawaii can cost tons of money. I often see people asking if $10,000 is enough money for a seven-night stay for a family. Flight and hotels are often the most expensive item in a vacation budget. But with points and miles you can almost eliminate that cost. There are some partners airlines that are the best use of points and miles to Honolulu.
Ways to book:

Air France/KLM Flying Blue
While neither Flying Blue member flies to Honolulu, their SkyTeam partner Delta does. There are tons of non-stop flights from continental US to Hawaii on Delta. There are even lie-flat seats in DeltaOne from many of those destinations. Here are the one-way miles costs.
Class of Service | Points |
---|
Economy | 17,500 |
Business | 30,000 |
Air France and KLM are both transfer partners of American Express, Chase, Citi and Capital One. There is also an Air France/KLM card from Bank of America, but you don’t want to get that if you’re under Chase 5/24.
British Airways
Using British Airways to fly American Airlines to Hawaii is a sweet spot of Avios. West Coast travelers will want to pay attention to these one-way amounts.
Class of Service | Points |
---|
Economy | 13,000 |
Premium Economy | 25,750 |
Business | 38,750 |
One important note is Phoenix also will get these West Coast prices if the flight is non-stop. Flyers living in DFW can find non-stop awards for 20,750.
British Airways is a transfer partner of Chase, American Express and Capital One.
Etihad Airways
Another partner of American Airlines is Etihad. This airline is best used for off-peak awards. Here’s what to expect.
Class of Service | Off-Peak | Peak |

You’ll need to call to book these awards. Etihad is a transfer partner of American Express and Capital One.

Singapore Airlines
This is another great example of finding award space on partner airlines. You’ll be flying Singapore’s Star Alliance partner United using KrisFlyer miles. Here’s what you can expect.
Class of Service | Points |
---|
Economy | 17,500 |
Business | 34,500 |
These awards can be hard to find. Plan ahead. Singapore is a transfer partner of American Express, Chase, Citi and Capital One.
Southwest
Southwest flies to Honolulu from eight different west coast cities. Since points needed on Southwest are based on cash price, you can find some low points redemptions. At the time of this writing, there were fares going for $139 out of Long Beach. That’s 9,543 Rapid Rewards.
There are plenty of co-branded Southwest cards from Chase, but you can also transfer Ultimate Rewards points.
Turkish Airlines
Our next airline is another example of utilizing partner award charts. Although you are booking through them, you’ll be flying United. If you can find an award, you can fly to Honolulu from anywhere in the United States one-way for these prices.
Class of Service | Points |
---|
Economy | 7,500 |
Business | 12,500 |
You’ll search on United’s website then call or email Turkish to finish booking. Turkish Airlines is a Citi transfer partner.
Bottom Line
You’ll notice that there aren’t any American carriers on this list. That’s because their points for this domestic flight are high. You might be able to find sales on award flights for the domestic carriers. But in most instances the above carriers will help you save your points for the next trip.
