Everyone has a different card wallet. The cards I keep might be different for you. This is because everyone finds different value in every cards. While I might have a bunch of cards, most aren’t used on a monthly basis. They just hang around for the benefits. But I do keep a hand full of cards in my wallet.
The Five Cards I Keep in My Wallet
I keep five cards in my wallet. Sometimes I rotate them out internationally, but I get a lot of value out these five cards.
Chase Sapphire Reserve
Out of all the cards in my wallet, the Chase Sapphire Reserve is the one that gets the least amount of use. I mostly use this for the travel protections, but I do frequent a few locations that don’t take American Express. The 3X on dining helps make sure I maximize my dining in those cases.
American Express® Gold Card
The American Express Gold is one of my most used cards. The 4X on dining and US supermarkets helps me earn lots of points when I’m not actively working on a welcome bonus. Although this card has some travel protections, I don’t use this card outside of dining or groceries unless there is a specific Amex Offer to use.
Chase Ink Cash
The first business card on the list is the Chase Ink Cash. I use this mostly for gas, but often head to Office Depot for gift card purchases. This card gets 5X at office supply stores. I also will happily get 5X on my Netflix subscription each month.
Chase Freedom
The Chase Freedom gets different uses depending on the quarter. This card offers 5X in different categories each category. During Q3, the CF was offering 5X at grocery stores and streaming services purchases. Sometimes this card is hard for me to maximize when the quarterly categories aren’t places I shop. This card isn’t open for new applications, but you can product change into it. The Chase Freedom Flex is similar to this card.
The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express
My second most used card is a business card. The Amex Blue Business Plus offers 2X on all spend up to $50,000. This helps me make sure I’m getting higher than 1X on all purchases. I also try to add all non-bonus category Amex Offers to this card, but that doesn’t work out always.
Bottom Line
These are my most frequently used cards. I could add a Chase Freedom Unlimited or a Chase Ink Unlimited for 1.5X on all purchases, but with the 2X from the BBP I’m not sure they get a bunch of use. I will add for the welcome offer in the future again. Again, I had a bunch more that I keep just for the benefits or the long credit history. In another post, I’ll detail cards that I keep in my sock drawer.
