After arriving in Tokyo on a Japan Airlines First Class flight, I headed out to my hotel. While I could have headed into Tokyo, I was intrigued by the Hyatt Regency Yokohama. I was excited to try out a different area instead of Tokyo since the main focus was Kyoto/Osaka and had another trip planned to Tokyo later in the year. 

The Hyatt Regency Yokohama has 315 rooms with just 18 suites. It combines traditional Japanese and Western design. The hotel also get some inspiration from the nearby Yokohama Port. 

I found the hotel to be a great alternative over the more expensive Tokyo hotels. 

Hyatt Regency Yokohama 1 King Bed Club Access: Review

Hyatt Regency Yokohama Location

Yokohama is south of Tokyo and one of the other major cities in the region. For those with a cruise departing from Yokohama Port, this is a great hotel. The port is a five minute walk away. Yokohama Chinatown, Yokohama Bay Stars and the Gundam Factory are all nearby. 

While you can take a taxi, I took the subway from Haneda which took about 45 minutes. It was an easy one-stop connection.

During my dates, cash rates were pretty low. $112 a night after taxes and fees for the 1 King Room. Low enough that I didn’t consider using points. This is a category 4 hotel. You can use a Free Night Award if you have one. If you don’t have an FNA, you will need between 12,000 and 18,000 points per night. 

Hyatt Regency Yokohama Check-In

I arrived around 8PM. I was greeted and thanked for being a Globalist then escorted up to the Regency Club to complete check-in. In the Regency Club, I was offered water and a cool towel. The cool towel was just appreciated after coming off a flight. Here I was informed there were no suites available, but I was upgraded to the 1 King with Club Access room. This is the exact same room as the one I booked just on a higher floor.

The Room – 1 King Bed Club Access

After about fifteen minutes in the Regency Club, I was escorted to my room. Don’t worry! It doesn’t take that long normally. I checked out the food in the lounge before heading up to my room. 

I was assigned room 1714 on one of the highest floors. The room was a bit small overall, but that can be expected of rooms in Japan. I loved the decor with the gold finishes and patterns. 

When you first walk into the room, you will find an open wardrobe to the right. There were several hangers and drawers to stow your clothes.

To the left was the bathroom. The shower and tub were in its own room while the toilet was also in its own room. Great division when you have multiple people trying to get ready. The sink area was very small. It would be impossible for more than one person to use this area or even just brush their teeth. For those traveling with a lot of cosmetics, counter space was limited. 

The bed was the main focus of the room with it occupying nearly 60% of the room. Two side tables flanked the bed. The bed was extremely hard. It felt like I was laying on the ground. For the first hour, I struggled to relax since the bed was so firm.  During turndown service, pajamas were provided. These were too scratchy for me so I never tried them on. The TV was across from the bed. It did have Chromecast so you could connect your laptop and watch Netflix. 

Past the bed was a lounger and small table. Waiting for me on the small table was a welcome amenity and note. Inside the box was a chocolate pastry. I always like it when hotels leave small amenities. Starts the stay off on a good note. 

A desk was in the far corner of the room. It was pretty large for the space. I was easily able to get some work done. 

Even though the hotel was in the city, I quite enjoyed the city view. On a clear day, you could see Mt. Fuji off in the distance. 

Hyatt Regency Yokohama Dining

While there are a few dining options on site, I mostly stuck to the Regency Club. Here Globalists are provided breakfast and evening bites. This wasn’t my favorite lounge on the trip and a bit weak in my opinion. 

For breakfast, there was a mixture of Japanese and Western options including runny scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, fish, salad, bacon and french fries. There were also several bread options. Plan on arriving when the lounge first opens for breakfast. It gets busy. 

Food options for dinner were robust. You could probably make this your entire dinner if you wanted to save some money. There were several meats including smoked salmon, salami, pate and prosciutto. Salad items were available as well. 

Coffee, water, soda and alcoholic drinks are complimentary. 

Hyatt Regency Yokohama Amenities

The Hyatt Regency Yokohama has a small gym available 24/7. Most items were for cardio with treadmills, ellipticals and stationary bikes, but there were a few weights. 

Hyatt Regency Yokohama Bottom Line

While I didn’t love the lounge, everything else was great. This wouldn’t be a hotel I would recommend for a trip to Tokyo. You’d easily be spending an hour each way on the subway to the main sites. But if looking to split up a trip and site-see in Yokohama, this is a fantastic option!
