Before heading to Japan, I decided to book an overnight in the New York City area. The closest Hyatt to JFK is the Hyatt Regency JFK Airport at Resorts World New York. It was nearly perfect for my one night stay.
The 400 room hotel opened in 2021 and historically has been great with elite status recognition. I experienced this first hand during my one night stay. The hotel does have its issues. Namely, there is no restaurant on-site.
Hyatt Regency JFK 1 Bedroom Suite with 1 King Bed: Review
Hyatt Regency JFK Location
Despite the name, the Hyatt Regency JFK isn’t located on airport property. It is located in Queens about a fifteen minute drive from JFK. It is located in the same building as the Resorts World New York casino. The location is convenient if doing an overnight or early flight out of JFK. There isn’t anything really nearby.
Hyatt Regency JFK Booking
I had a Category 1-4 Free Night Award expiring soon and I was looking to use it. Luckily, the Hyatt Regency JFK is a category 4 World of Hyatt hotel. I redeemed the certificate directly online. The hotel was going for $350 for my one night stay giving me great value for my free night award.
If you don’t have a free night award and are looking to use points, you’ll need between 12,000 to 18,000 World of Hyatt points per night.
Hyatt Regency JFK Check-In
I arrived at around 12:15PM. I was helped by one of three agents. None were exactly helpful, but were efficient. My room wasn’t ready which was understandable as check-in wasn’t until 3PM. During my wait, I noticed how inconsistent each was with providing information about the hotel to guests.
I waited it out in the lobby. It was beautiful giving off mid-century modern vibes.
The Room – 1 Bedroom Suite with 1 King Bed
Because of my Globalist status, I was upgraded to a 1 Bedroom Suite with 1 King Bed from a 1 King. This upgrade provided me even more value as my new suite was going for over $900 a night.
I was assigned room 201, a suite on the far side of the building.
When you first walk into the suite, there was a small table to drop a few items. Across from this was a small full bathroom. The bath had a walk-in shower, toilet and sink. I never used this bathroom during my stay but found it to be clean.
As you walk further into the suite, you enter the sitting area. Here you have a sectional, small chair, table and television. You also had a mini bar with coffee, tea and water. The television had a Google Chromecast so I could stream Netflix to the TV. This space worked really well to relax in the evening.
The bedroom was massive. In this space was a bed, desk and television. A side table with power outlets could be found on both sides of the bed. Best of all, the bedroom had a proper door. A closet was also found in the bedroom. There were tons of hangers in this space.
The main bathroom was huge. Here you had your choice of shower, tub, dual sinks and a toilet. The tub would have been nice to soak in the winter, but no salts were provided. Le Labo bath products are provided. I found the shower to be fantastic. Water pressure was fantastic and quickly got hot.
Floor to ceiling windows are found throughout the suite. If you were hoping for a view, you don’t find that here. Since the hotel is found next to a casino, I had a view of the main parking lot.
Overall, the suite was fantastic, but felt simple. There was tons of underused space in the room and very few pictures. I think the hotel could have done more with the space or had more finishes to make it feel more luxurious. I also found noise to be an issue. I constantly heard cars racing down the street throughout the night. Maybe if I was on a higher floor the noise would have been less of an issue?
Hyatt Regency JFK Amenities
The hotel has a Regency Club Lounge. It is not open 24/7, but rather a couple hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening. The lounge is extremely small and gets busy. There are a couple of sitting areas to accommodate groups of four. Those that have access can get breakfast, light bites and drinks.
For dinner, there were a couple of hot options. The hot dishes were chicken & gravy turnovers and asparagus risotto balls. They also provided pizza bagels. It reminded me of the snacks I used to have after elementary school. Not sure whether to be offended the lounge offered this or excited. You also had assorted desserts like cookies and cupcakes.
During breakfast hours, the lounge provided breakfast staples including sliced meats, bacon, sausage, pancakes and cheese omelets. The pancakes were pretty dry and the omelets had an odd aftertaste. There were a few cereal options and a couple instant oatmeal flavors.
Hyatt Regency JFK Bottom Line
Despite the less than helpful check-in agents and street noise, I found this to be the perfect hotel for an overnight. I really enjoyed the suite to relax and get some work done before my flight to Japan. Hopefully the hotel continues their excellent elite recognition. The Regency Lounge was pretty solid as well.
