The Hyatt Regency Dallas isn’t the most luxurious hotel in Dallas/Fort Worth. It’s not even my favorite hotel in Dallas. However, this was my go-to hotel in downtown Dallas before the Thompson Dallas was opened.

This is a massive hotel. It features 1,120 rooms with just forty-three suites. If you are attending a conference on-site, it’s the perfect location. Even if you aren’t attending a conference, the Hyatt Regency Dallas is worth a consideration.

Hyatt Regency Dallas: Review

Location

The Hyatt Regency Dallas is located right on the outskirts of Downtown Dallas. It is within walking distance of the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. Reunion Tower is connected to the hotel.

Booking

Because I ended up changing flights just a couple of days before arriving, cash prices were a bit higher than I normally see them. On my dates, each night was going for $250 before taxes.

Points nights were available for all three nights. All three nights were going for peak pricing. I didn’t have enough points with Hyatt nor did I have enough Chase Ultimate Rewards points to book all three nights. Instead, I used a points + cash rate for two nights and a Category 1 – 4 Free Night Award for the final night.

The points + cash rate was 9,000 World of Hyatt points plus $100. All in I used 18,000 points plus $200 and a free night award.

Check-In

I arrived at 3PM after my flight from Columbus. Although there was a short line, it was quick. It took about five minutes from the time I walked into the hotel and had keys in hand. The front desk agent was friendly.

The Room – Executive King

I booked a standard 1 King room. During check-in, I did ask about an upgrade as I didn’t see one in the World of Hyatt app. I ended up getting upgraded to the Executive King. It was sold to me as an Executive “Suite” at check-in, but it was more a larger room than a suite.

I was assigned room 1017.

To the left when you entered was the bathroom. It was a bright space. The shower was on the left. I didn’t quite care for the shower head. Water pressure was excellent and hot. The toilet was in the back of the bathroom. A single sink was on the right side of the bathroom. Tons of counter space was available.

A wardrobe was found directly to the right when you enter. You’ll also find the in-room safe here.

As you enter the rest of the room, it is a wide-open space with a desk, sofa and couch.

To the right in the main part of the room was the desk. If you plan on working from your room, it was a great place to work from. The middle section of the desk contained a mini fridge for water or food. On the far left of the desk was the coffee station. It had regular coffee, decaf coffee and tea options.

Across from the desk was the bed. Both sides of the bed had tables. But only the right side had power outlets.

Along the outside wall was a sofa and table. If you were looking for an easy place to sit for dinner, this wasn’t it. The table was a bit too long to easily eat.

I had a view of the downtown Dallas skyline. When I looked at it, I was flooded with memories back from when I lived in Dallas. A DART station could also be seen. I didn’t notice issues with noise from it.

The only thing I didn’t like about this room was it connected to another room. The person in the room next to me was typically loud in the evening. The noise came right through the door.

Dining

Breakfast is served in The Centennial. It is located on the second floor of the Hyatt Regency Dallas. Some days they served breakfast buffet style (you can also order from a menu) while other days you can only order from a menu.

When the buffet was served, there is several stations. You have your typical breakfast options including scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes. Cheese and sliced meets were available with a couple of fruit options. Tons of pastries were available including sliced breads, muffins, do. Gluten-free options are available.

Amenities

Fitness Center

I checked out the fitness center each morning during my stay. I arrived between 6 and 6:30AM each morning. I was surprised to see that it was almost empty during that time. The same man was on the treadmill each morning.

The fitness center is well stocked for those looking to workout. They have several bikes, treadmills and ellipticals. There wasn’t a ton of weights. It was mostly free weights.

Bottom Line

The Hyatt Regency Dallas is a great hotel. While it isn’t as luxurious as Thompson Dallas, you’ll miss out on all the street noise. You’ll get to save some points as well. This is an excellent hotel for travelers of all types.
