I wanted to share a wrap up of my 2022 travel. I always like to see when bloggers put together these types of posts. Mainly because that is a lifestyle I would love to have. 2022 was a landmark year for me in terms of number of trips. I’ve been incredibly privileged during 2022 to travel as much as I could. Especially since I was going to grad school.

In this post, I will share my flight and hotel stays and how that could have been different if I didn’t have some cancelled trips.

Flights

I was able to log 54,583 miles in the sky over twenty-eight flights. The average flight length was 1,949 miles over three continents. The shortest flight was Dublin to London City Airport at 248 miles. The longest flight was Dallas to Sydney.

I only flew three airlines, American Airlines, British Airways and Qantas in sixteen different airports. Six of those airports I had never been two before.

My flights took me to five new cities in Europe and Australia. In Europe, I explored Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels, Antwerp and Dublin. My new city in Australia was Brisbane.

None of my flights this year were in international first or business class. I was upgraded a ton from economy to first class while flying within the United States. I did fly three times in Premium Economy. One of those was from DFW to Amsterdam with American Airlines.

Thankfully due to AA’s new way of earning status, I was able to re-qualify for Platinum Pro status. Most of the progress from status came from AA shopping portal purchases. This really came in handy on my international economy flights. I was still able to get lounge access.

Some reviews of these flights are still in the process of being written. I hope to share them soon!

Hotels

I stayed sixty-eight nights in hotels. Sixty-three in Hyatt’s, three in Marriott and two at a Hilton. Those sixty-three nights at Hyatt helped me re-qualify for Hyatt Globalist status. It is hands down the best elite status among the major hotel brands.

Of those hotels, nineteen were brand new to me. Only three I had previously stayed at. I love the Park Hyatt Sydney and always try to stay there when in Sydney.

I’m still working on reviews for some of these hotels. Be on the lookout! I always share them on Instagram and in my Facebook group.

Cancelled Trips

I normally try and plan my trips more than a year out. This allows me to have some flexibility to find award flights or find cheap cash flights.

I was planning on traveling to Munich, Austria and Paris at some point during 2022. But points availability wasn’t on my side for the hotels. I ended up pushing the Munich and Austria trip to this year. I also planned on going to Guam. Instead, Australia opened up.

I also had a thirty-day trip to Japan scheduled that I was super bummed to cancel as I had been waiting nearly an entire year after booking everything. Japan didn’t open before the trip. I’m now doing a shorter version this year!

Bottom Line

Let me reiterate how privileged I was in 2022 to travel as much as I did. I hope none of you took this as bragging. Life is only so short. I hope to continue traveling as much as I was able to in 2023. This was the most amount of flights I’ve taken in a calendar year!

In a future post, I plan on sharing what I currently have planned in 2023. What travel successes did you have in 2022? Hope to see those in the comments!
